John Isaac Southerland Receives the Lawyers for Civil Justice “Outstanding Contributor” Award

On December 5, 2024, Huie partner John Isaac Southerland received the “Outstanding Contributor” award at the Lawyers for Civil Justice (LCJ) Membership Meeting. This award recognizes John Isaac’s contributions to LCJ’s advocacy efforts and successes in 2024.

John Isaac currently serves on the Costs of Discovery Committee where he assists with preparing discovery cost-shifting rules and provisions for submission to state business courts. He also generally serves on LCJ’s Discovery Committee and participates in other actions, such as LCJ’s efforts with respect to a currently proposed federal rules amendment regarding remote testimony. Previously, he was a Co-Chair of LCJ’s Rule 30(b)(6) Committee that worked to achieve reasonable amendment to Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 30(b)(6).

LCJ is an advocacy organization whose members support reform of procedural litigation rules to further “the just, speedy, and inexpensive determination of every action and proceeding,” as stated in Rule 1 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Through collaborative engagement by in-house and outside counsel, LCJ develops and advocates for reform proposals that improve the efficiency and fairness of the U.S. civil litigation system.
