Huie Partner Phil Collins and Associate Hillary Fisher recently successfully argued summary judgment in favor of a North Central Alabama hospital in a medical negligence case. The case was brought under the Alabama Medical Liability Act and claimed that the hospital staff breached the standard of care in the care and treatment of the plaintiff. The Circuit Judge granted summary judgment and dismissed all medical negligence claims.
Since joining the firm in 1997, Phil has successfully defended a wide range of corporate defendants in personal injury cases, including hospitals, nursing homes, underground coal mining operations, product manufacturers, home builders, food processing companies, trucking companies and scaffolding companies, to name a few. He has also represented numerous insurance providers in direct-action cases.
After graduating from law school, Hillary worked as an attorney in Dallas where she gained invaluable environmental and toxic tort litigation experience defending Fortune 500 companies from the discovery phase through trial. Since returning to Alabama and joining Huie in 2018, Hillary has expanded her law practice to include the areas of medical malpractice, professional liability, product liability and insurance defense.
